Repair Café RCT brings local people together to fix household items, cut waste and share practical skills. At our friendly pop-up sessions volunteers and skilled repairers help mend clothes, small appliances, bikes and more, while teaching the skills you can use at home.

Repair Café RCT was established in 2021 by like minded people who wanted a practical way to reduce waste and strengthen community ties. We run a NETWORK where local Repair Cafes can receive support and advice, we also run our own welcoming, hands-on repair events where experienced volunteers and community members work together to diagnose faults, make repairs and pass on practical know-how. Our approach is friendly, inclusive, everyone is welcome, whether you bring an item to repair or want to learn.

What Repair Cafes Do?

  • Reduce waste by making repair accessible and affordable.

  • Share practical skills so people can fix more at home.

  • Build community connections and empower local makers and volunteers.

  • Support inclusive participation, we’re developing activities for people with learning differences and sensory needs.

What we fix

Typical items we help with include:

  • Small electrical items (kettles, toasters, lamps)

  • Clothing and textiles (mending, patching, replacing zips).

  • Furniture and small wood repairs.

  • Bicycles and basic mechanical adjustments.

  • Toys, household items and basic electronics troubleshooting.

How it works

  1. Bring your item to a Repair Café session

  2. A volunteer will assess the issue and, with your permission, attempt a repair.

  3. Repairs are collaborative, we’ll show you what we’re doing so you learn to fix similar problems in future.

  4. We ask for a small voluntary contribution or donation to help cover materials and running costs; repairs are not a commercial service.

Events & workshops

We run regular pop-up Repair Café sessions and hands-on workshops covering mending, basic electrics, bike maintenance and more. Workshops are designed to be practical and accessible,  suitable for beginners and people wanting to learn new skills.
