Care 2 Grow

Grow Rhondda is excited to introduce The Edible Playground Care 2 Grow project! Building on the success of our2022 Fruits 2 Shoots initiative, this new endeavour aims to further engage our local community through the joy of gardening. Together, we can cultivate not just plants but also connections among neighbours as we nurture our shared green spaces.
Join us in creating a vibrant and inclusive gardening experience for everyone!

The Healthy Outdoor Learning Project set out to highlight healthier options as a natural, sustainable resource that anyone can be part of, regardless of experience, just a willingness to learn.
The project is built on the belief that outdoor learning boosts education, social skills, and emotional wellbeing. Throughout the programme, gardens and outdoor spaces became places where children could develop life skills, confidence, and lasting memories.
Between 2022 and 2023, the project worked with the Schools and Hospital Gardens Programme, successfully recruiting 10 schools and 6 local hospitals. Each space was designed to offer a positive, engaging learning experience for children, patients, staff, and volunteers.
A key legacy is encouraging schools and hospitals to continue similar projects in the future. By celebrating the efforts of everyone involved, the programme aims to inspire long-term outdoor learning and healthier communities.

The Care 2 Grow project offered RCT schools a 6 week programme that is aimed at encouraging children to get active using gardening as the key. With help from the schools each child registered to this 6 week programme, at the start and the end of any registration they undertake a sterling assessment questionnaire which is a recognised assessment.

Over the 5 weeks we look at design build plant and grow their own flowers and vegetable, this would either be from seed or small plants, so why have both Veg and flowers. The idea of growing them together is something that has been done for generation, companion planting is its title and for many gardeners this is the best way to bring planters into your gardenThe Grow Rhondda project would like to offer RCT schools a 6 week programme that is aimed at encouraging children to get active using gardening as the key.
